I went the $35.00 for all dayrides and the kids said this was the best carnival that they have gone to here yet. they rode rides all day and rested and listened to the bands and I picked them up at 10:pm. I felt comfortable leaveing them there as I counted 6 cops around the park and it is all fenced in and they were in a group of teenagers and one of my grandsons is 18. boy there was a heck of a large crowd there . :D

I went, but felt five bucks admission was too much. I dont go for the rides (which would have cost more) but for the booths. Would have been great to have had more booths selling stuff there. Had a decent time, but won't be going again at that price.

I'm sure this comment will start a war but I'll be staying out of it.

No war TygerTyger, but last year you said $5 dollars was too much and you won't ever go back. Sorry you feel cheated again. Have you been to Disneyland lately?

No war TygerTyger, I can remember when there was no admission to the watrmellon festival. I can also remember when Gas was $00.50 a gallon. does that mean you won't buy gas any more?.

I didnt go to the festival last year, it was in 2010. For some reason I thought it was only a few dollars.

I do not go to Disneyland nor am I happy about the $4+ price for gas. ?

This was not meant as a thread to start any sarcasm or jabs. Just trying to have a conversation.

For the last few years, I've felt my voice is no longer needed here, I don't have anything particularly important to add and we've beaten every subject to death a hundred times.

Thank you all, for the replies that are kind and helpful, I've been around since Simon was running the board about 5-6 years ago, but I think it's time to detach, from both here and the several FB forums that have sprung up. Tired of the endless squabbles about pot places, the junky streets, bums in the park, on and on. No more.

Good luck.

I feel ya Tiger. I have to remind myself sometimes when something is a fundraiser that I am going to pay more. I do believe that the funds go back into the community. I think I would pay the $5 just to hear Cleanslate play, but them I am biased, lol.

Please stick around and don't give up the good fight. You and I usually agree about most things

I simply cannot believe the bullying that goes on within this forum.

The last time I went to the Watermelon Festival it was free (several years back). I have been out of town the weekend of the festival the last few years and missed it, so was excited to go. My husband and I were going to go both Friday & Saturday night, and we hit up the ATM on the way prepared to pay hiked up prices for beer, dinner & rides because it is a fundraiser. That's okay - we like to support the town we grew up in, live in and work in. However, when we saw the admission price on Friday, we turned around and left and decided to go only Saturday. We would have spent more than $5 each on dinner and beer that night, but I don't like being charged to spend my money. I will not be going to the Easter Carnival anymore either. I love that our little town has these events, but I think a $2 or $3 admission would be much less offensive considering it was free for 48 years. It's not Disneyland - it's our local park that doesn't even have grass. Also a poor comparison because Disneyland rips their customers off so they can stay rich, and they do it just because they can.

I wasn't going to post anything on here about it because I didn't want to hear the backlash, but after seeing what happened to Tyger Tyger I figured I would speak up and show some support. I don't know who anyone from this site actually is in real life. What I wonder is who you think you are having absolutely no respect for other people's opinions. Stop being bullies! Stop with the sarcasm and accusations! I read on here all the time, but rarely post because of the abundance of cruel responses people receive. Grow up!

Those comments did not seem particularly cruel to me. Just a little poke, is how I read it. A little sensitive, ay? I did not go to the carnival because I had no one to go with. :( Son is all grown up, but he went with his girlfriend! :D I would not mind paying the $5 admission. However, the rides at $5 a pop is a bit steep. My son is not a rich guy, so they did not go on any of the rides. They chose to eat instead. I guess they could have gone on the flying saucers! :P

What am I missing? The only comment I see that isn't in agreement is a joke about 50 cent gasoline?

Edit: And, the 50 cent gasoline post was directed at Rusty, not TygerTyger?

I can't believe someone who's been on the internet any length of time thinks this forum has a lot of bullying. As admin noted there isn't any in this thread. It's always better to be polite but what goes on here is really minor compared to the really hateful stuff posted on most commercial sites like Yahoo, HuffingtonPost and the media sites. Perhaps it's a misinterpretation of what someone posts that's taken as bullying - maybe a personal message to the poster would lead to clarification. Without visual cues it's hard to get the subtleties - best to ask to be sure you understand.
