I just got back. I really enjoyed it. I cleaned up a bunch of name plaques and chopped all the weeds off of one of the Hatch civil war graves. The other will have to wait until tomorrow, I'm all chopped out!

Mary Lou, the lady who is taking care of the place told me some interesting stuff about the place. They've had some really bad issues with homeless/squatting/druggies in the area. Even into this year, with the tall fence w/ barbed wire around it a homeless guy spent all night cutting his way thru and went about setting up house in the mausoleum area. He brought in rolls of plastic he was going to hang and even went so far as to paint a mural on the side of the mausoleum. The bamboo like plants that grow on the other side of the road from the entrance is a notorious drug drop off/dealing point. They were cutting the plants back today.

The caretakers cottage I remember being there is gone..only the foundation remains. There are big plans for the place..an information center, war veteran memorials and steps are going to be put in on the path that leads up to the little hill where Wornom is buried.

A great view of the north end of the valley from the flagpole up there.

Excellent Tyger ! I am going
tomorrow, so I'm sure I will see you .
Mary Lou is a great little lady !
Even after having back surgery,
she is a little ball of fire and so spunky.
I really liked her !

My favorite grave was Parson Wornum,
the first person to be buried in the cemetary
and who they named Parson's trail after.
Learning about the history of our area
is great ! I am going to go by Bolton
and get some books about our city !

Here's a few pix from today, I'll put more up at the STA site later. Remember they are doing this again tomorrow and need all the help they can get! The views from the cemetery are amazing!

Thank you all for working on this - it's a great place and Mary Lou and Richard are wonderful people.

It's another maintenance and watering day for the seedlings in the Experimental Forest up in the Verdugos - Look for the trucks on the fire road going up from the parking lot on La Tuna Canyon and the 210. They're starting at 9 am too.

I think it's great folks are out taking care of our foothills!

Here's a few more! If you can show up for even an hour, that would be a big help.

i did make it and brought my weed wacker. met Mary Lou. spent about 1 1/2 hours there. it was a good feeling knowing you are doing something good for the community. i was born(1957) and raised here and have lived here all my life except for a 10 years in lancaster. i even lived on hillhaven at one time and this is the first time i had ever been to that cemetery. Mary Lou seems like a real sweet heart and it was a joy to help her.
