Okay, now I've seen it all. I know those low-lifes go around stealing our recycleables and make a mess in the process, but yesterday, our entire blue bin was stolen! :x Still missing. Had to order a new one. WTF? Unfortunately, we did not have our address on it. :x

Yeah, I have people rummaging thru my recyclable bin too. I've been told that if the bin has been pulled out and is in the street, technically the contents are now "city property." So I guess this means no one is really stealing from ME, per se, even though I can stand and watch it from my kitchen window.

I've decided to give up on this matter, nothing will ever be done. Order your new trash can, it's free. I know, it's annoying, but remember: It's city property now!

And burn all your info sensitive papers if you've got a fireplace, don't leave them out in the trash where the city apparently doesn't mind it's revenue being stolen.

I get the same guys every week !
I wont go into what "ethnic" group they
are , or I will get a PM from someone calling
me a racist !
They park right next to my house
and there are 2 guys that take trash bags
with them, up and down the street .
I have called LAPD everytime, on my way
to work to report it, but dont know if / when
they come or even if they do at all .
Maybe I'll change my shift on a Monday
so I can see what is actually done .

Sorry your whole bin was taken K9 !
That stinks ! < lame pun intended ! >

I had a homeless woman stealing my recyclables once. My dog was barking insanely by the window. I told her that my dog was very protective of my property and was trying to push through the screen so for her safety, she better not stand in front of my house. It worked.

Thieves come up empty from my cans. I recycle bottles, cans and glass. The only thing in there is paper. And pity the person who wants to search my black can.........it usually smells really bad  since I only have to take it out every couple of weeks.

Question, tho. Is the black can the one to use for dog poo?

Like Slumpbottom, I don't have that problem, since the only things that go into my blue can are recyclables that I can't sell. I've always recycled my own aluminum, glass and plastic. Why make it easy for some bum to steal my stuff? And I sure don't want the city to make any money off me; especially this city.

Two or three times a year, I haul all my 'crushed' aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles to one of the local recycling centers, and come back with anywhere from $100-$200 in cold hard cash...!

:D

Actually, most of the money is just a refund of the CA Redemption Fee that you pay when you buy the stuff. Why let someone else have 'your' money?

When my kids were little, they would crush our cans, and collect/sort our bottles...and they got to keep the money!

Our entire bin was missing about a month ago, also. We called in about it and got a new one. More than likely what happened is the truck accidentally threw it out with the garbage. It happens all of the time. They don't realize it until they are done with their runs at the end of the day and inside the truck with the garbage - there is your bin.

I had thought I'd seen it all until a neighbor of mine was found by me rummaging thru my trash bins (with gloves on, so it was premeditated). I said what are you doing??? and she said checking because I'm not putting all the recycling in the right bin!! I called the police and they said that once you put your stuff in the trash, it no longer belongs to you, I think they said it becomes city property.

This is the twilight zone.

Same with me, only it was the BLACK can.

You'd think that checking to make sure the can doesn't get dumped along with the trash would be a basic task in the job description.

Oh, wait...what am I thinking? This is a 'city job'...there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY!

That's stupendous! Talk about a meddling female with nothing better to do with her time. Wow! And so totally shameless!

I think if I had someone doing that in one of my trashcans, I'd plant some very large messages on the inside of the lid she'd have to read each time she lifted it up. They would not be flattering.

Are they two guys in a white truck? If so, I have seen them. In fact, they were rummaging through our recycle bin (at the end of the driveway) when I came out to throw something else out. I think I startled him. He looked at me and ran to the truck across the street and they made their getaway down Tujunga Canyon Rd.

I was more amused than anything else.

Thanks, but the person that did this to me is a full time employee (with the city). And I am a stayhome mom.

just for arguments sake....

if these "bums" didn't make a mess, and cleanly took only the items (cans and glass bottles) they can get $$ for from the recycling center, would you mind?? or are you more worried they might rummage and find something you didn't want them to find?

would you mind they would get perhaps what... 5 cents per bottle or so that we have tossed out? maybe that would be enough to feed him/her for a day?

you really can't call it "stealing" as you've already tossed it out.... right?

oh boy.....
