You're right. It is scary especially when I think how or who is starting these fires. Plus, the wind, heat, and high humidity makes it even scarier!! Doubt I'll get much sleep!!

I was out watering the yard and three different sets of neighbors walked by with their dogs. Each, in turn, mentioned we probably wouldn't be getting much sleep tonight.

Bill was up at Deukmejian Park and it was full of people taking photos too. The smoke got too much for him and he came back home to get into air conditioning. Firefighters are up there setting up for air tankers expected from Ottawa tomorrow morning. That's right, planes are flying in from Canada to help La Canada.

I think the clock on our site here is off by about an hour. I went outside and from the Freeway you could the flames on our side coming down the ridge. Doesnt look good at all.

Now I am concerned if it jumps the freeway it will be in La Crescenta.

Oh thank Jeeebus. I was wondering about the Canadian wonders today.

We were just talking about where we would go if we ever had to evacuate. While I have the grab-and-go backpacks ready, I didn't have a place in mind to head to.

For future reference, looks like the closest pet-friendly hotel is the Residence Inn in downtown Burbank.

This large open-top tank was placed today on the east helipad just below The Deuk. As I was leaving tonight, a Glendale FD engine was hooking up its hose to the nearest hydrant in preparation for filling the tank with water.

According to the LA CO FD person I spoke with, they will be supporting helicopter water fills starting 0800 Friday 8/28. I'll try and be up there with the video and still cameras, if possible. If we do sleep tonight, it's gonna be in shifts.....

Here's how it looked when I got there (looking east):

I left a little before 9 tonight because it was getting too smoky up there. This was the view to the east right before I left:

I just came back from the fire. It is at Angeles Crest above the 210. Counted 15 fire trucks go up in a caravan. The street is blocked off and they are evacuating the people from the top. At least I know I can sleep now.

It's very smoky in our neighborhood right now - no wind and no embers, but the smoke is much worse than a couple of hours ago. The cats got nervous when we set out the four carriers and put clean towels in them. We had already shut the bedroom door or Tibby would have been under the bed for the night and extremely hard to get out. I sure hope we don't need to use them.

The TV news is back on and reporting the Station fire is now burning west of Angeles Crest Hwy., near its origin.

We dont have air conditioning and left the windows open all night. Bob had to get up at 3 this morning, i have given up going back to sleep, I cant breathe.

Something I learned from being evacuated from the Merek fire last year.
We had only lived in the house a year. Our drivers licences had other addresses on them and only Bob's truck registration had the current address. We were out of town the night the fire blew thru so we had no paperwork with us. Once they let residents back in, It took a bit of convincing to let us in. I used the gas bill for a few days for an address ID. A good thing to remember is to keep something in your vehicle with your current address if you have just moved into a new area.

Firefighting is a big business. A lot of people in towns you and I have never heard of depend on the income from fighting forest fires. They call in resources from all over the southwest and northwest to fire them. Now I'll start loading the trailer. I've been in this situation before.
