I just drove by 10176-78 Tujunga Canyon - The MiniPitch Indoor style Arena Soccer field.- and it appears that one of the wall blew down during yesterdays storm.

I can not believe how poorly constructed that building is. Can you imagine putting 150 kids in there.?

The whole project is a travesty! No parking, no bathroom, no simpson ties , no concrete footings. What a mess. And THAT was approved by the City. What a joke!

It is on Tujunga Canyon Blvd just where Hillhaven butts in to it. The Hillhaven where The Steel Pit is located... about 200 feet beyond Commerce Ave.

To be more clear than my first post.. It is in the process of being constructed. I reread my original post and it sounds like it was a completed project. It is not.

One of many hot topics at the Land Use Committee tonight.
We're having Mama's & Papa's Pizza brought in to warm you while you participate in
helping guide the development of the many projects going on up here.

Sorry I could not make it. I hope t0 hear an update here on the following things:

-How could this project been approved for THAT site?
-There is NO parking.
-Where were the parents going to park while waiting for their kids?
-Where would they drop them off? On Tujunga Canyon Blvd? Too, too busy for that.
-What about bathrooms? I hear that it was approved for two porta potties? WTF? Porta potties? What country is this?
-How could they put the wood of the foundation directly on dirt? Isn't that an invitation for termites?
-Why were there no "simpson ties" that connect the 'sticks resting on the dirt to the walls? *sorry I don't know construction terms)?

But really, bottom line, and the very first question HOW DID THAT PROJECT GET APPROVED FOR THAT SITE? Same question for another project: How did the propane sellers get approved for THAT site?

This next part is speculation on my part: Are the planners being paid off? It sure looks that way to me. Either that or they are, excuse the expression... STUPID.

I will bite my tongue.
The project should NOT have been approved.
A series of errors were made and NOW the applicant is going through what should have been required all along, a full Project Permit Compliance Review. Believe me all of those questions have been asked.

For anyone who missed driving by today Mother Nature is assisting them in the removal of the walls that were now required to be removed for being too high. The applicant came and brought drawings. I gave mine to the audience or I would scan it and post it here. They're now going through the entire Environmental Impact Report questions.

Yes the city told them Port-o-potties are OK. Yes I often wonder if I am now in the Twilight Zone.

Thank you Hummingbird for the info.

I know you, and all the amazing volunteers of Sunland Tujunga, as well as us plain ole residents, are very frustrated. It is as if we are living in 'opposite world'. This project, and so many others make no sense, what so ever.

That's the million dollar question.... Are they following current codes or have the current codes changed or become more lax without the knowledge of us regular folk?

Just the fact that this was to be a functioning sports structure approved WITH NO TOILETS has got to speak volumes. Permanent porta potties? WHAT? THIS is the new norm?

Something is not right here folks.... The saying I love for situations like this:
When you smell a rat, there is one!

Here is the problem. There are no codes. There are no earlier rules regarding this kind of project. It does not fit into the little boxes created by the existing rules. It's a round peg and does not go into the square holes. This has stumped the responsible city staff. Therefore it was thrown into the wrong category and really there isn't one.

Our LUC Deputy for Planning, has offered to go visit other similar properties to see how these were constructed and to offer assistance to the applicant. (He's a volunteer- HUGE kudos and appreciation to Dean Sherer for his offer).

Perhaps it is our LUC that will end up writing the codes for this kind of thing!

That doesn't seem to be "up to code" in any sense at all! I wonder if OSHA should be informed? They're Federal, not City or State.

So that's what this nonsense is all about? the porta-potties for the construction workers? It sounded to me like they were to be permanent fixtures.
