It's 106 as of this writing, and it seems to be getting hotter.

When we drove up to Rite Aid yesterday our car read out said it was 115 degrees outside. Of course the car is reading temps from the street surface which is super hot. Our patio, in the shade, was a modest 106 degrees. Pffff.

Fri night my back porch read 110 at at 7:30pm it was 100.

Today in Santa Clarita it was 110, and 109 when I got
back to the valley here.

And of course yesterday afternoon our air conditioning went out. We had a rough night and expect a rougher day today. Thanks to the other thread on HVAC repair. We will be making calls, but I doubt to hear back today.

Speaking of heat and air conditioners, nothing beats Mexico's heat.

When I was younger, my parents and I would visit my grandmother's house during the hottest summer months. Grandma had this huge, cube-shaped air-conditioning unit that would use enough power to light up a small country. To make it work, you had to fill a reservoir at the back of the unit. Me and my cousins would sit in front of it for hours just soaking in the freshness and getting sprayed every now and then. Now that was air conditioning!

BV,
Thanks so much for helping us out. We got up and running and slept well last night. We were just starting to cool off when the power went out in the area. Fortunately it didn't last too long. Please thank your husband again for us.

I think that unit is called a swamp cooler. When I was growing up, a neighbor had one of those. It did work really well.

Wow, never heard it called that!

Unfortunately, Blondie, for it to be effective, you actually had to sit in front of it!

My dad installed one of those in a living room window of our first house here. I used to sit in front of it. Then when we built the current house he installed it on the roof with a 2x2 foot duct opening up in the halllway right below it. I haven't had it on much lately. That's a big blast of air to get around when navigating the hall. Plus in this humidity it doesn't cool so much as add more moisture to the air.
