American television has always been a conservative league behind what was routinely airing in the UK and much of Europe. In the late sixties and early seventies a weekly TV show in America challenged those conservative limits introducing the jaw dropping antics of a dirty old man in the park (Arte Johnson and Ruth Buzzi), the snorting telephone operator (Lily Tomlin), the swinging judge (Sammy Davis Jr), the mini skirts and bikini clad dances (Goldie Hawn and Judy Carne) and much more. Rowan and Martin’s "Laugh-in" straight from beautiful downtown Burbank managed to break open the cast iron doors that had previously been welded shut even showing a humorous side to the otherwise enormous failure of the downtown outdoor mall that was once downtown Burbank. While this is by no means the complete cast or long list of hilarious skits from this show it suffices to illustrate that from the depths of this show that changed America’s world renown prudish TV, from having married couples that slept in separate beds to the reality of life’s then psychedelic world, comes my oft referred to intro to many subjects “Here come da...” as shown here in this youtube. So the next time you hear, or read, me saying “Here come da....” please let it echo in your mind as if coming from the mouth of the swingin’ judge. Tku.

Discipline is one thing but that is downright sadistic. I hope the video is being used as evidence in a child abuse case against the parents.
I happened to see a small part of that 8 minute video. It was on several tv channels last night. The beaten girl is now 23 years old and has cerebral palsy. She just now made it public. So, I do not know if charges can be brought against the judge now. Very disturbing and disgusting. Could barely watch less than a minute of it.

What did we have, like 3 channels growing up ? And no remote. I have such great memories of evenings climbing into my grandma's bed(her room was across the hall from my sister and I) and watching Laugh-in, Flip Wilson show, Sonny and Cher.. all that stuff. Grandma let us watch whatever we wanted.

"All in the Family" was the series that broke the barrier IMO.
I love that show!! Still have a bunch of collectible tapes. How many of us can relate to "stifle" and "dingbat"- a la Edith style? And, loved Laugh In too. I remember Goldie Hawn getting her start on that show and bragging how she got a "D" in math.

My father was Archie Bunker incarnate and my mother's name really was Edith. Believe me, it's not funny when you're actually living it.
