Dear Moderators,

Regarding the rule to only be allowed to post in one topic:

HUGE DISAGREE.

My main postings are events that we want to reach out to as many as possible for.

Posting in more than one location is the only way I can assure I am reaching everyone. It has NEVER been a problem before and now there is a new rule about it? What problem is being solved?

Many people never even open STNC Topic.

Many more people ONLY open Local Living. Especially the MANY that log on as guests.

A few search by Local Events and I recall at least one person only searching there.

Booooooooo. No likey. If I am only going to reach the same ten people there is no point posting these events here. DISAGREE. BIG TIME.

Tomi - perhaps the newly restrictive admin will allow you to at least point to a main post with info about an event - just put all the info once but have links in other categories.

I suggested that months ago, B.M. (Before Moderators  ) but nobody heeded it.

I think you mean 'newly restrictive moderator(s)'. I post the rules, I don't make them.

There are several issues with duplicate posts.

1) Users who read using the "view new posts," which shows you all posts made since your last visit, see all the duplicates. We have heard that they do not like that. On this forum more users than not use that view.

2) Users reply to the various duplicates, creating multiple conversations about the same thing, which is hard for people to follow. If someone does not realize there is more than one of the same post, they don't see all the conversation.

3) We have different categories/forums for organizational purposes. Posting the same thing multiple times, and posting things in places other than the most appropriate category, defeats the purpose of having multiple discussion categories.

Because it was not a rule then. I still disagree. I will not reach people the way I have been for how long now? Three years. I think if you go back and look at the discussion about this from before you'll see that MOST people didn't object. The existence of two or three duplicates doesn't cause any big inconvenience. This was the consensus when it was discussed before.

I'm not sure who decided it was a problem that needed to stop now but ask the users. That's what matters. Not many objected before and that is why it was not a rule before.

Anyway...I think if you look at the posts where there were duplicates you will see there were HITS on each one which shows that some were seeing it in one topic and others saw it in another.

So the only ones who will see it is those that VIEW ACTIVE or NEW. Sadly most newcomers, and guests view LOCAL LIVING or the topic they desire. That's my point.

I give up. I think it is going to cut down the number of people that we're able to reach but I repeat myself. Over to you.

It has been working for many years. It was discussed here on this board and the majority saw no problem with it and understood it's purpose. What changed?

OK. After a brief discussion with Queen I see the problem. For those who, like me, didn't understand....if there are two or three subjects but in different topics you can end up with an equal number of conversations. Still not a problem....here is the problem FRED replied to the post in LOCAL LIVING but didn't notice which topic he replied under. FRED goes back to see his post and see what responses have come and he just looks under the topic that shows up first (normally the one with the most recent reply) and he can't find his post. He posts again thinking something must be wrong. OR he just gets annoyed (as anyone could) because he can't find his post and then realizes he has to look in multiple places.

I apologize. I didn't understand. I get it now. Sorry.

So the idea Elefino had mentioned months earlier (and again now by SharonW) didn't make any sense to me but that has been clarified now too.

There can be an original post which is linked to other threads in other topics...again this didn't make sense to me because I thought "what is the difference, it's still another topic with the same thread?" BUT the difference that makes all the difference is that the subsequent threads are NO REPLY threads that only link to the original post.

The room got so much brighter. AHhhhhhhh! All's well in Sunland Tujunga tonight. TKU Queen.

My apologies again. I just didn't get it. Now teaching me to do that is a whole other story!! LOL.

No apologies necessary. We all want this forum to be the best it can be. The new moderators and rules are trying to achieve that. We all have a learning curve to go through. I know I do.

If you need some examples to see how the post linking should work, I'll try to post some examples tomorrow, It's getting late now. Stay tuned.
