K9 husband is for hire if anyone needs help putting up lights and other decorations. Handicap, elderly, un-handy, no time...whatever the reason. You might want the lights and decorations, but don't have the time or the ability. Respond here or PM if interested. :D Season's Greetings

Our block puts up their lights the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
We then meet outside at 6pm, cookies, home made donuts,
hot choc, etc and then walk around and see everybodies
set up.

Nice way to get together with neighbors.

There should be a law against leaving Christmas lights up ALL YEAR LONG.

Why? It's easier for the pizza delivery guy to find your place during the off-season.

So.. nobody else thinks that this is yet ANOTHER blight? Sagging old christmas lights, some years old in June? People are so damn lazy.

No. I don't mind Christmas lights up all year. To me, they are heartwarming. You are assuming they are lazy. Perhaps they have kids who like to have them up all year. I had a friend who left her lights up- her dad was dying and was probably not going to see Christmas and he wanted to see the lights. Once he died, she left them up.

No, it's pretty much laziness. Seriously. Christmastime is for lights. If you are one of those houses that decorates for every holiday then fine, you take down your Christmas lights in January and you put up your St. Patricks Day/ Fourth of July/ Halloween lights when that time of year is upon you. If your kids like the lights put them up in the back yard or inside and enjoy them to your hearts content.
As for the dying story, I'll give you that one, but it's most likely laziness, seeing as how most, if not all, of the year-rounders don't turn them on.... sometimes they don't even turn them on when it IS Christmas.

When you were growing up did you (and I don't mean tujunga gal specifically) see Christmas light on houses in June? Most likely not. You put them up in Nov/Dec and they come down in Jan.

Must be more of a priority for you than me. I don't put Christmas lights up but doesn't bother me if they leave them up. Instead of being lazy, perhaps they are busy with other things in the community that they deem more important. You can say lazy, I think otherwise.

Indeed! Glendale has a law about Christmas lights - I think they have to be down by Jan 15 or something like that, I recall people who celebrate the epithany saying Jan 1 was too soon - but I sure hope none of my tax money is being used to enforce it. Of all the problems I see around town, out of season Christmas lights fall pretty low on the scale. For example, I wish dog companions would cleanup after their furry friends!

I grew up in Tujunga, and yes, I did in fact see Christmas lights on houses in June. The neighbor across the street was the one who used them to alert the pizza delivery driver, and there was another house down the street that left them up but didn't actually turn them on until the season came around.

I always did (and still do) think that the pizza alert was a great idea. That, and it let me know that I should be sure to visit my buddy across the street shortly

Fine, so I'm the only one who thnks that sagging old lights dangling off rain gutters looks tacky and looks depressing in a town that is hurting for business and wants to be taken seriously. Ok. I'll take that badge of dishonor.
