I noticed on the reply card they helpfully pre checked the box indicating - "I support the Home Depot in Sunland-Tujunga." It's just one more example of their arrogance and disrespect for this community. They can't find real supporters so they have to manufacture them on paper.

Maybe we could have some T-shirts made that say "INTIMIDATION SQUAD" on them and give them to some seniors from the mobile home park next door, in response to HD's claims of being intimidated at the boondogle in April.

That is simply infuriating. They've posted the picture of the paid Home Depot shills that they bused in to the hearing on their front page. On the opening page! See how much they care and are reaching out to the community. Its like someone sat down to figure out how to piss off the whole place! How irritating.

I love where it says "Supporter Testimonials." They probably only have that one positive remark. I wish that they would have some kind of link where we can read ALL the comments instead of the carefully selected (and probably manufactured by another store's employee) positive ones. Makes me sick.

It looks to me that the people in the photo are employees at some sort of a "manadatory" corporate pep rally.

The part that always makes me suspicious is Home Depot's claim that they will "add millions of dollars annually to the sales tax revenue of the cty." Have they taken into consideration all the sales tax that will be lost when local merchants are driven out of business? Have they factored in the transfer of actual retail sales from surrounding Home Depots to the one in Sunland? This, of course, will transfer the sales tax also. Los Angeles city receives .75% of the statewide sales tax of 7.25%. Los Angeles County adds another 1% to make 8.25%. I couldn't find out if any of that county sales tax goes to the city. So, if the city gets only .75% of the total sales tax bill, the proposed Home Depot would have to have to have blockbuster gross sales to raise the city coffers by millions every year. And Home depot expects us to believe that these "millions" will be used by corrupt city officials for emergency services, parks and libraries. Ha!

The previous post got me thinking. Here's something to sink your teeth into.

Let's assume that when Home Depot says that this store will mean a million dollars in tax revenue to Los Angeles, they are talking about the 1.75% going to the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles county - combined.

For 1.75% to equal one million dollars ($1,050,000 actually), that store would need to generate $60,000,000 in annual revenue. That's a lot of nails and two by fours.

Then I visited their website to see how proud they are about the "community support" these stores provide. It says they typically put $3,000 into the community in the first year... and $1,200 into the community in subsequent years.

A couple of calculations later, we can clearly see that this generous support breaks down like this:

$3,000 = 0.005% of their annual revenue
$1,200 = 0.002% of their annual revenue

Gimme a break!
