I read the Daily News & Times daily, have you noticed how the LA Times NEVER mentions Sunland/Tujunga, especially now with the rain & all.
It's all about La Canada, La Crescenta...yes, there is a map on page A3 today but no mention.
What's up with that ?

The Times is so skimpy nowadays I don't expect them to be more than a circular soon. But that is ridiculous. I guess it's all about appealing to a dwindling demographic.

Newspapers are in big trouble and we are lucky to have them at all. My husband was the chief photo editor and an early casualty of the Daily News a year ago. Journalists from both papers, laid off, and still with jobs, take bets to see which paper is going to go under first. You don't see as much news coverage because staff is so low.

I was at a party last week, and out of 20 or so people, 4 had heard of Sunland, a few more thought they might have heard of Tujunga. If no one knows we're here, I can't really blame the LA Times for not knowing either.

I will never read the Times again after they, as the parent company to the Glendale Newspress, flat out stated that they were no longer going to report on our area or include the Newspress in the LA Times. They stated that they would not report on any of our students. If we had an athlete that broke every record known to man, they would not report on them. If the student LIVED in S-T, but went to school in La Crescenta or La Canada, they would not report. Yes, they literally said this. Basically, they said that we did not spend enough money on the advertisers or that we even had enough money, so they yanked it all. I remember being more offended than I had in a very long time.
Now when they come calling for MY dollars, I tell them no, and why.

I would be curious to know if Slumpbottom actually talked to someone in editorial? If you talked to someone in Classified..which is usually the case over the phone...they don't always know what they are talking about and will tell you anything.

The funny thing..........they printed it in the Newspress! I didn't have to misinterpret anything. There it was in black and white.

The state of journalism and newspapers speaks for itself...so glad we're out of the industry before it totally collapses! Thanks, Slumpbottom!

Yes, that is the future of Journalism, Sharon. The small town papers and the internet.

I'm curious about Alpine Village, Zachaou Canyon and Haines Canyon being referred to as North East SF Valley. Isn't it Tujunga?

They also lump Blanchard Canyon in there as well, I have no idea where that is.

The demise of the larger newspapers is sad. Growing up we had The Daily News delivered in the morning and The Post delivered in the afternoon. I loved it! Yes, that was before CNN and the 24/7 TV news cycle and the Internet. We also had one local newspaper The Canarsie Courier..it is still in business.

I love news and newspapers and love to read a well written story. Getting newspapers as a youth (or yoot as they would say in the neighborhood) brought me out of my neighborhood and into surounding areas.

It is great that we have local papers but I truly miss having a good City wide newspaper that brings the larger City in and brings our neighborhood out to others.

L.A. has always had a problem of being a cohesive City and good Newspaper would help with that.

Tujunga is in the NE San Fernando Valley and Alpine Village, Zachau Canyon, Haines Canyon and Blanchard Canyon are all IN Tujunga.

As admin said..many people have no idea where Tujunga is and quite often confuse it with Topanga so giving a geographical description gives people a better idea of where /what they are talking about.
