Thanks to the CV Weekly for the breaking news:

Approval was given on Monday morning, March 8, for the Station Fire area to be given a federal disaster designation. Congressman David Dreier was instrumental in securing the designation, which he said will assist the area in recouping costs associated with the fire and subsequent floods.
“This will basically help in the reimbursement to the city and the county for [costs incurred] for the last several weeks,” Dreier said. Many overtime hours have been logged by personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, L.A. County Fire Department and public works.

Just a thought, many of us were profoundly affected by the Station Fire. I for one still have some bizarre "post traumatic syndrome" reactions when fires are announced or fire trucks go by.
Is it inappropriate to perhaps have a memorial on 8/26/2010, the one year anniversary of this disaster ? Perhaps we could have a silent candle vigil in one of our parks, an acknowledgement not so much for us but for all that was lost in the fire, our hills, the houses of our friends, our animals...
Is this weird or should we just let it be and each of us will have their own solemn vigil ?

I don't think it's weird.

There's an Art from the Ashes event opening June 19th

ART from the Ashes – Public Reception
Time: 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Location: ART from the Ashes Gallery – 216 S. Brand Boulevard, Glendale
Description: The Glendale Parks & Open Space Foundation and ART from the Ashes present an art exhibition for the benefit of Deukmejian Wilderness Park. Over 60 artists have created more than 100 works of art out of natural and man-made materials burned during the Station Fire. No admission charge.
For information call: (818) 550-4303
see: http://artfromtheashes.org/exhibitions_ ... an_pr.html for more information.

It might be theraputic to see beauty made from the burned material.

How about flashlights or the candle app on your iphone? :P I think the vigil is a good idea.

OK, I'll start working on it because I think it is part of the healing and shows respect to those who lost everything as well as our precious hills.
Where is the question, Bandito park ?

If there were enough people to circle around sunland park that would be a sight to behold or how about a candle light march from mt gleason to sunland park

Someone thought candles where not a good idea, we can do flashlights and should head more for the hills as they were affected, not so much Sunland. Maybe Foothill & Tujunga Canyon down ?
Sunland had ash, we had the fire.
